Top cocoa buyers and chocolate manufacturers will pay a premium on cocoa from Ghana and Cote d’Ivoire, according to a deal reached in the Ghanaian capital, Accra, on Friday.
The agreement announced at the end of a high-level meeting between the Cote d’Ivoire-Ghana Cocoa Initiative and senior representatives of the companies also witnessed a commitment to back a price floor on cocoa from the global top two producers as part of interventions to tackle farmer poverty.
The deal will basically see country premiums on cocoa from both producers restored
