FEDCO Lauded By COCOBOD For Embracing New Registration System

Federated Commodities Limited (FEDCO), a licensed cocoa buying company has been lauded by a Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Cocoa Board (COCOBOD), Dr Emmanuel Opoku for embracing the new cocoa farmer registration module by the regulator.

Dr Opoku spoke at FEDCO’s 25th anniversary celebration and award ceremony for its farmers in Kumasi.

He noted that farmers aligned to FEDCO have had their farms registered and details of all activities documented on the database of COCOBOD.

This, he said, gives Cocobod access to all records and information of FEDCO members and partners including their farm size, farmhands, acreage of production, yield and other important details of farmer operations, Kumasi-based Wontumi FM reported

According to the deputy COCOBOD Chief Executive, FEDCO has continuously set itself apart with best practices in the LBC business making it an outstanding brand in the cocoa industry.

The Managing Director of FEDCO, Hajia Maria Adamu-Zibo, recounted since 1996 when it was founded by her father, Dr Alhaji Adamu Iddrisu the company had distinguished itself as a major LBC by buying 16,907 metric tonnes of cocoa.

She observed this feat has been achieved without using COCOBOD funds.

Madam Adamu-Zibo praised her, Mr Yaw Kyei, for laying solid structures for the company, adding it was not surprising FEDCO had its certificate from Cocobod, only a year after its establishment.

Hajia Adamu-Zibo intimated that FEDCO stands committed to running a sustainability programme that will give incentives to farmers so that the latter can adopt environmentally friendly practices through training for improved outcomes for themselves and their communities.

Nana Agyenim Boateng, Amoamanhene and Chairman of the 25th anniversary celebration commended FEDCO for creating a viable company where it has created jobs for farmers including the youth and empowering them with other income-earning ventures.

He urged the 170 award recipients and farmers to be energised by the recognition from FEDCO and work to improve their operations.

On his part, Nana Osei Kofi Abiri, Chief of Kenyase No. 1 and representative of the Asantehene said FEDCOs impact has been felt in the country especially Asanteman.

Apart from improving the livelihoods of farmers who are associated with them, it had created the opportunity for the country to grow the industry.

170 farmers and stakeholders including 19 District officers and 59 purchasing clerks were awarded by FEDCO.

39 drivers of the company were also recognised with various forms of awards.

Items given out included were knapsack sprayers, pruners, motorbikes, tricycles, refrigerators and television sets.
