Additional Livelihood Programme; Over GH¢16k Added to Farmer’s Revenue in Less Than 2 Years
The Additional Livelihood Programme, initiated by ECOM Ghana, is aimed at supplementing the income of farmers during the cocoa lean season. The programme, aimed at introducing farmers to extra farming activities have increased the earnings of many farmers.
Emmanuel Boadi is one of our farmers whose income has increased by more than GH¢16,000.00 (US$2,580) over the past two years.
Emmanuel Boadi, a beneficiary from the Obuasi district, recalls having no idea what Additional Livelihood entailed before joining ECOM Ghana as a cocoa farmer. According to him, his overall income was based primarily on cocoa farming, making it impossible for him to provide for his family of six and embark on personal projects.
Emmanuel noted that the first year of cabbage growing was a resounding success. He narrated, “I planted cabbage on an acre of land and received over 40 sacks of cabbage worth over GH¢ 4,000.00 ($645.00).
In the second year, I expanded my field to three acres and gathered over 100 sacks of cabbage worth over GH¢ 12,000.00($1,935.00)”.

He further revealed that he has used some of the proceexΩ zc∫∫ds to buy a taxi, which provides him with extra income in addition to his professional job as a teacher.[];∫∫
