SMS executes high quality sustainability programs to raise farmers’ productivity and prosperity
through tailored training and supply of specific products and services (including agro-inputs and
financial services). Further SMS delivers or catalyzes the delivery of social products and services
that support the prosperity of host communities. SMS contributes to WECOM’s goals and
objectives by using data and market insights to inform the development and delivery of products
and services to farmers/farmer communities, and to catalyze the continuous improvement of
WECOM’s performance.
Background- SMS, West Africa, Data Insights
As part of ECOM’s data system’s strengthening efforts, the digitization of data collected through
standard data collection tools and centrally stored in an accessible database that can be used in
automated reports is a key milestone.
The skilled business intelligence resource will be responsible for assisting the Data Insights team
to envision, design, and deploy Power BI solutions. As part of a small, dynamic team, you will
have the opportunity to contribute to multiple phases of the solution life cycle including
architecting, designing, and implementing models and processes for large scale datasets. The
resource will be helping to build and strengthen the tools and processes as part of ECOM’s Data
Insights’ strengthening efforts. This person will work closely with the Head of Data Insights, West
Africa, to ensure that the data processing, analysis, and reporting are developed according to the
agreed internal standards and with high quality. This resource is expected to contribute with the
Data Insights annual plans execution and help build a knowledge management system.
Scope of work
The following will be the main responsibilities of the Business Intelligence Developer / Analyst.
● Responsible for assisting our clients to envision, design, and deploy Power
BI solutions.
● Design and build automated reports and KPI dashboards primarily in Power BI but also
Python/Excel.
● Provide reporting support to various stakeholders and projects, can expect changing
priorities in deliverables.
● Update support monitoring systems to provide visibility over operations activities.
● Support other members of the Data Insights team in tasks related to reports and
dashboard development.
● Participate in the design and implementation of the data quality system.
● Participate in the consolidation of inputs from Data Insights and other teams for reporting.
● Develop and consolidate reports for different stakeholders according to their needs.
● Execute reporting and visualization requests for WAF from the DI request system.
● Train Data Insights team’s staff in Power BI, Python, and other data management tools
● Contribute to the development of guides and best practices in building dashboards.
Qualifications and requirements
The Business Intelligence Developer / Analyst, West Africa must meet the following qualifications.
● Bachelor’s in computer science, economics, data science, statistics, or related field
● At least 3 years Power BI experience and 5-10 years of technology experience (required)
● Strong background in building the visualizations using Power BI.
● Experience optimizing data models in Power BI.
● Experience with performance tuning of the Power BI Dashboards.
● Ability to work directly with customers, gather the requirements.
● Should be able to work independently with minimum supervision.
● Certifications in Power BI is ideal.
● Previous experience with programming languages for data processing (Python and SQL)
would be helpful.
● Previous experience with Python data management libraries (Pandas,
Matplotlib/Seaborn, Numpy, among others) would be helpful.
● Experience in the implementation of data quality management systems.
● Experience in managing geographical information data and software.
● High communication skills both written and spoken.
● Professional level of English and some basic communication in French advantageous.
● High level of Microsoft Excel.
● Excellent teamwork and communication skills.
● Excellent time management skills.
