WCF Donates To Schools In Deprived Cocoa Communities

The World Cocoa Foundation (WCF) has donated assorted reading and learning materials to 22 basic schools in deprived cocoa communities in the Suhum District of the Eastern Region.

The donation formed part of WCF’s contribution towards Ghana Cocoa Board (Cococbod)’s 75th Anniversary and the 2022 Cocoa Day celebration being held in the District.

The educational materials comprised reading books, exercise books, mathematical sets, rulers, and other stationery worth over Ghc175,000.

Presenting the items to Ghana Cocoa Board at the Suhum District Cocoa Office, the Country Director of WCF, Dr Betty Annan, said the initiative ties into the efforts of WCF to support basic school education delivery and promote literacy among wards of cocoa farmers in deprived communities.

“WCF is passionate about child education and these books are meant to be used by the pupils themselves to improve upon their reading skills”, she added.

Dr. Annan used the opportunity to encourage farmers to ensure that their wards are in school to study.

Receiving the items on behalf of the Management of COCOBOD, Mr Fiifi Boafo, Deputy Director of Public Affairs Department, was grateful to WCF and assured that the items will be distributed to the schools to serve the intended purposes.

“COCOBOD is keen on promoting quality education in rural areas where cocoa is grown and this gesture will go a long way to help us achieve this focus of the Board”, he indicated.

The educational supplies were provided by the kind support of World Cocoa Foundation member organisations.
