Vacancy: Technical Manager – Koa Impact Ghana

Koa is a Ghanaian-Swiss Start-up, the first cocoa fruit processor in West Africa (Ghana). By sustainable processing of the cocoa fruit to Koa Pure, (cocoa fruit juice), we increase the farmers’ income significantly and reduce up to 40% food waste, while generating valuable jobs in the rural communities. We have a 250t production capacity with over 60 employees in Ghana and Switzerland.

Our processing concept is based on decentralization, digitalization as well as utilization of renewable energies.

To serve the growing demand for our products, we will be expanding our operations both in scope and in scale. To lead the process of expansion from an engineering point of view and to develop a blueprint for future growth, we are looking for a Technical Manager.

Job Description

The role of technical manager at Koa is an opportunity to envision, and implement designing and engineering knowledge and expertise in the production of innovative food products from a challenging environment into a sustainable value chain with a multidisciplinary and international team full of energy to positively impact the life quality of stakeholders.

Duties

• It is the Technical Manager’s duty to ensure good maintenance of the infrastructure resources (water treatment, electrical, mechanical, waste management, among others) required for safe and effective production operations, in accordance with the regulatory standards for food production assumed, as well as the established company’s environmental goals.

• Maintain, optimize and improve the existing technology setup for food processing including ancillary equipment, and develop solutions for newly arising challenges, in cooperation with other departments.

• Lead successfully the projects and activities related to technology and infrastructure required to comply with the company’s target for quality and production. This involves as well the engineering and project management for the second processing location already in planning.

Responsibility

• Ensure machinery, equipment and infrastructure are kept in optimal and safe conditions for operations.

• Plan and execute new technical integrations to support related activities.

• Management and development of the technical department in Ghana.

• Management of the technical team (internal and external), proposing and leading technical improvements according to the characteristics of said coordination.

• Define utilities requirements and designs associated systems for onward implementation.

• Confirms technical system and product capabilities by designing feasibility and testing methods and properties

• Create and maintain a preventive maintenance program for the company

• Leading and supporting continuous improvement activities. (tech approach automation).

Operations Director (GH) Technical Procurement Manager (CH)

Job Requirements

Academic qualification: The Technical Manager is expected to have an MSc in Process, mechanical, electrical or System Engineering or a related field and HACCP certification.

Work experience:

• 5 years working experience in a senior position in a food production company.

• Worked in an internationally operating food production company.

• Project Management in repair & maintenance; Operations & preventive maintenance philosophy; Production & Maintenance.

• Experience in field operation, process design & system engineering, knowledge of process engineering calculations and knowledge of the use of computer programs of process simulation packages.

• Exposure to international working experience.
